We have found that most things you need answers to are detailed in the "7 Steps to the Perfect Canvas" Guides. To download these FREE e-books and read them at your leisure (once the kids are in bed!), please follow this link:

To try and help you further, some of the most common questions (along with their answers), are detailed below. If there is anything else that we can help you with, please don't hesitate to contact us.

How do I get my artwork or photos to you?

You have 2 options; you can either post the originals to us, or upload them digitally via our website. You are welcome to post original artwork or photos in your own packaging, to our address:

FREEPOST
myfirstpainting.com

(I know the address looks short, but I promise you it's correct - if you're sending from the UK, and then you don't need a stamp either!)

Alternatively, for your convenience and proper protection of your originals, we will send you a "Postal Pack". Once you have placed your order with us, this will automatically despatched to you if you have requested it. This pack is already return addressed to us, with the postage paid.

If you have a good quality digital copy of the artwork or photo (please see later), you can upload this to us via our website. It's all so easy!

Can I send paintings, photos, drawings and collages to be put onto canvas?

Paintings, photos and drawings no problem! Because of the digital scanning process, anything that is "stuck on" to the paper will be scanned, but will not have the same 3D effect. Please bear this in mind when sending originals in to us.

Will you return the original artwork?

Yes. We always return the original artwork to you. You are prompted during the order process, to decide if the original is to be sent to the same address as the finished canvas. If not, don't worry. We will follow your instructions.

When will I get my canvas?

Please allow up to 21 days from receipt of your original artwork, or uploaded digital image, for delivery of your canvas. Delivery times may be slightly longer if made outside the UK.

Deliveries are normally made between 9 am and 5.30 pm, and may arrive at any time. If you are not in, the courier will leave a card to notify you of the attempted delivery, and advise you to contact the courier directly to re-arrange.

Will the colours look the same?

We endeavour to get as close to the original as possible although an exact colour match cannot be guaranteed. The first thing that we do once we receive the original artwork is to digitally scan the image at high resolution to ensure that we get as close as technically possible. These are usually pretty good!

Can I order a surprise gift and have it sent to another address - like the grandparents?

Absolutely! You will be asked for all of these details during the ordering process, so you can send the finished canvas wherever you choose. You will even be able to send a special message or greeting with the order.

What kind of re-touching can you do as the kids have torn the original a little?

Don't worry! We offer a re-touching service that allows for this as part of the standard service. If there is a lot of re-touching needed, or indeed requested by you specifically, we can quote you for this separately.

All images are "cleaned" and checked for obvious marks before printing to ensure the best reproduction possible. We haven't been beaten yet!

Are the canvases water resistant and can I hang them in a bathroom?

No, canvases are not sealed (although we do offer surface protection as an optional extra), but yes, you can put them in a bathroom ... as long as it's not too "steamy". You should however care for them as you would any other work of art or wall hanging. Don't spray them with the shower hose and avoid getting water on the wooden frame, as this could cause it to warp. If it does get wet, simply dry with a cloth as soon as possible.

How durable are the canvases?

Very durable indeed. We print using specialist UV resistant inks which penetrate deep into the fabric of the canvas, rather than "sitting on top". The ink will not flake, scratch off or crack on the corners of the frame either, as it can and does with some other printing processes.

What if I don't like it once it arrives?

Again, don't worry! If for whatever reason, you are not absolutely delighted with the canvas, simply return it to us in the original packaging and we will refund the cost of the artwork in full. No quibble, no fuss, no catch! We want all of our customers to be totally satisfied with our work. Please see the Guarantee page for a statement from our Managing Director.

How deep are the stretcher bars?

The standard stretcher bars on which the canvas is mounted are 5 cm deep. If you would like them thicker, then please just ask!

What sizes are available?

We have a range of standard sizes that are most popular with the majority of our customers. If you have specific requirements please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate them. Click here to see our range of standard sizes.

How do I hang the canvas?

The canvases are actually quite light, so can be hung really easily on a screw or picture hook attached to the wall.

What if I wanted to put the canvas in a frame?

We will be looking to offer a framing service at some point in the next few months. For the moment, you could take the canvas to any good picture framer, who should be able to frame the canvas to your requirements.

How do I care for my canvas?

To maintain the lifespan of your canvas, you should treat it as you would any other hanging artwork. Please do not expose it to continuous strong sunlight, heat or moisture. It is probably not advisable to hang it directly above a hot radiator. Please do NOT wipe the canvas with a damp cloth. A gentle wipe with a dry duster will suffice.

How do I make payment?

Payments can be made via the website using your debit or credit card, through the WorldPay system. We will accept Visa, MasterCard, Switch, Maestro, Solo and Delta. If you have a PayPal account, you can also select this payment method. Personal cheques will also be accepted and can be sent direct to us as indicated in the ordering process.

How much does delivery cost?

Delivery will ordinarily be made in the UK by First Class post from the Royal Mail, although we do use other couriers from time to time. We are now able to offer worldwide delivery, and prices per canvas are as follows:

UK - Small canvas & gift items   £3.95
UK - Medium & above canvas   £7.95
Europe & Rest of World   £15.00

Delivery of Gift & Garment Items is just £2.50 per item for all UK orders, and £4.50 per item for all deliveries to Europe and the rest of the world.

How are the canvases protected during shipment?

We take great care in packing them! Each individual piece is bubble wrapped, corner and edge protectors are applied if appropriate and it is then secured inside a durable cardboard box ready for despatch. It will arrive with you in perfect condition.

How secure is online payment?

All payments are handled by the secure servers of Worldpay and Barclays Merchant Services, using state-of-the-art 128 bit encryption for maximum security of all transaction data. This means that it is impossible to "break the code" and steal your details.

A small padlock icon will appear in the status bar of the browser at the bottom of your screen when you are connected to a payment server, confirming that your data is secure.

What if I'm still not happy about ordering online?

Again, not a problem! You can phone your order and card details directly to us by calling 0800 032 2840. Alternatively, you can pay by personal cheque, although we will need to wait for clearance before we can begin to process your order.

What will you do with my personal details? I don't want to be mobbed by people trying to sell me things.

We need your personal details so we can to process your order efficiently and correctly. This information is for our records only and we guarantee not to give, sell or make available your information to any other company or organisation. If you wish us to remove your personal details from our records after processing your order, please feel free to write to us and request that we do so. Please see our Data Protection & Privacy Policy for further information.

What happens to the copyright?

The copyright of all original images remains the property of the artist or photographer. If you send us an original image which you declare to be your own (or your child's), you are automatically granting us the right to print it in accordance with your order.

If you commission us to produce a new image from either a painting or a photograph, then the copyright of the new image (a derivative work) belongs to us, although you remain the copyright owner of the original.

What about your terms and conditions?

Yes, now the boring bit! Unfortunately, like any business nowadays, we need to have these clearly defined for everyone to see. We hope that you will agree that there is nothing "scary" in here! Please click to see our full Terms and Conditions, and details of our returns policy.

What about cookies?

Cookies are small packets of data that help to identify your browser when you start to add items to your shopping basket. They do not contain any personal information about you or your computer. No one else has access to it or is able to use or copy your cookie. This small file will enable you to do some shopping, shut down the computer (to make tea for the kids!), and continue later without having to re-enter the items in your shopping basket.
